What miQ does

miQ turns attendees’ phones into the microphones at live events. When you speak through miQ, your voice plays through the venue’s speakers and is transcribed for the event’s organizer. This page explains exactly what that involves.

If you join an event as an attendee or speaker

• Your name is optional. If you skip it, you appear as “Anonymous”.
• Your microphone is captured only while you open it (holding the talk button, or a speaker’s open mic). It is never captured while you wait, browse, or sit in the queue.
• While your mic is open, your voice is broadcast live to the room and transcribed. The transcript, with the name you joined under, goes to the event’s organizer along with AI-generated summaries of the session.
• If you rate the event (thumbs up or down), that rating and your display name go to the organizer.

If you organize events

Your account (name, email, sign-in) is managed by Clerk, our authentication provider. We store the events you create and everything listed above for each of them. As the organizer, you are responsible for telling your audience that the event uses miQ and is transcribed, where local law requires an announcement.

What we do NOT do

• We do not sell your data or show ads.
• We do not use your audio or transcripts to train AI models.
• We do not keep raw audio: clips are transcribed and then discarded. Only the text transcript remains.
• Nobody outside your event sees its transcript: only the event’s organizer (and whoever they share it with).

How long we keep things

Event data (names, transcripts, summaries, ratings) is kept until the organizer deletes the event, which permanently removes all of it. Technical error logs age out and contain no audio or transcripts.

Website visits

When you open our public pages (the home page, the join page, this page), we log the page, the approximate location your network address suggests (country and city), the site that referred you, and your browser type. We do not store your network address itself, and we use no cookies or cross-site tracking.

Services we run on

miQ processes data through: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Clerk (organizer accounts), LiveKit (real-time audio), Deepgram (speech-to-text), and Anthropic (AI summaries). Each receives only what its job requires.
